I just found your blog and really am enjoying it. I think I see the budget as you do and my husband sees it as yours does and figures "there's room left, let's fill it!". I agree with Money Funk, though, that as long as the budget guidelines are kept, its okay to play with the amounts a little. My husband works hard to put food on the table - if he wants meat, which he does, he gets it. Men, gotta love 'em!

I think as women it is common for us to try and 'beat' the budget; to feel gratitude for being under budget.

But to men... well, speaking of terms about my man. He is similar to the situation you describe above about the grocery budgeting. Men like to eat. My man is a meat man. So, it is common for him to want to jack up the budget if it is under. Add things we don't need.

I think that understanding both points of view will allow you two to learn how to compromise between the two of you. The food budgeting allowance may be of more importance to him... because men like to eat (I say with whittingly) : )

My take: If your food budget is at a good level while meeting your other goals, then leave it where its at instead of cutting it down anymore. I don't think it be a fear of overspending. Let your man add to the grocery list as long as it stays w/in the guidelines.

Like your blog says, "saving money without loosing luxury"

BTW: great blog!
