Yes, I learned this lesson the hard way, as well. I have to go a few more times a year than you as my hair is fine and wavy and splits a little more easily if the trims aren't kept up. (I trim my bangs in between visits)

It's not worth the mental and emotional trauma to save a couple of bucks! Every time the budget is tight and I even suggest going to CostCutters, my hubby is quick to say "NO! We'll cut something else out." Isn't he a sweetheart? ;o)

I hate how much hair-stuff costs -- especially haircuts.

But I also don't hate it enough to go someplace too cheap. My basic compromise is to get a style with layers so I can wait awhile. The hair gets a little flat, but nothing unbearable.

That said, I'm considering going to a friend's stylist. She's a whopping $50 (!!!) but on the other hand, how much worse is that than $30-40 most places charge? It's all about degrees, I suppose. This lady may be worth it because she's apparently fantastic with curly hair. Mine's curly-ish and has a ton of body. So I'm considering going to her for the actual cut and then just go to cheaper places to have them keep it in shape. Sigh. It's still frustrating as heck, though.

I hate dealing with my hair.

Last week, I got a hair cut (first one since April!) and paid $15 with tip. Went to a beauty school, like I had in April.

I was impressed with how the stylist talked with me about what I wanted and what I didn't want, and how she worked so hard to make it right.

Then, her supervisor came over and inspected me, making sure I was satisfied and making sure things were even.

Since she's working for a grade and for a tip, I think beauty school gals can be pretty good.

But, my hair is straight and fairly simple to deal with. I dunno if I'd want to go that route if I had curly hair.
