Wonderful info! We moved to Indy 14 years ago without knowing anyone here. If you want any insight into the city, let me know! Happy to share!

Yeah - can't recommend paring down your stuff enough. We've moved 3 or 4 times since we've been together and you realize how much crap you don't need simply because you get so sick of moving it. One thing I cleared substantially was my library - I have probably half as much books as I used to. We got rid of all our DVD's and CD's as well. Best of all if you have a second hand bookstore or DVD store in town - you can make some extra cash by selling all the stuff you don't need. Moving isn't so bad now - but we're settled for now and are starting to accumulate more stuff again...

Wow, you are so on top of things! Keep us updated on the housing search, which I know is difficult from a distance.

Start making a list of companies you need to supply with your forwarding address. Magazines, banks, etc. It's usually a pretty big list! And of course, you'll tell the post office.

If you haven't used/worn/needed an item in 6 months, consider getting rid of it. Otherwise go ahead and pack it. As you're packing boxes tape something to the outside of the box listing the contents. That way if you do end up needing something, you won't have to tear open every box. ALSO--start looking on Craigslist or Freecycle for rea; moving boxes. They are very expensive if you purchase them outright, but you might happen upon someone who just had a professional move and needs to rid themselves of the boxes :) (as I did, recently)

I would go ahead and do a little packing, too, if I were you...you could probably go ahead and pack up summer clothes since it's getting cold here and will be, what, April when you move? If it's May, then that's probably not realistic, though...NC is already hot in May. Kitchen gadgets that you don't really use but want to keep? Books that you're not likely to read in the next six months? All of that could be boxed up and tucked away...something I wish we would have done on our move to and back from TX...
